What is a World of Tanks server sight. Increase your WOT statistics by turning on the Server Sight What does a server sight mean in world of tanks

I have played over 5 thousand battles in world of tanks and have never seen or heard about the “Server Sight”. Oh, a miracle happened!

For those who don't know about the server sight: In Settings, in the first tab, at the very bottom there is the “Server Sight” function, which is disabled by default. The "Server Sight" function displays on your screen the actual position of the sight on the server, adjusted for ping.

Imagine how the server works: the game client (during the battle) sends to the server data about the location of your tank, the speed of its movement, the position of the muzzle/turret, in turn, the server gives your client data about the location of illuminated enemy tanks and allied equipment (movement speed, muzzle/turret position) . When you take aim and fire at the enemy's side in a split second, the server processes data about the position of your tank, the position of the sight cursor (muzzle/turret), the position of the enemy, its speed of movement and, taking into account the skills of your crew and other factors, calculates the flight path of the projectile ( drawing it on the screen) and makes a verdict about hitting a particular point or missing it.

For a comfortable game, the client is “sharpened” in such a way that you can enjoy the game process. A comfortable game in WOT looks like this: “80 fps in the top left of the screen, a flat 40-inch box with a resolution of 1920x1080 and a tank rushing across the plains smoothly and gracefully skirts the uneven terrain, illuminating enemies one after another, the battle front is visible from the first to the last line. Unevenness of the terrain and the frisky firefly, jumping up as if on a springboard, fires a shot in the air at the heavy enemy that suddenly appeared from behind a hillock, lands on the tracks, performs a maneuver and makes another shot, on the move, pierces a heavy target and moves away from the front."

In fact, the game on the server runs at an average of 17 fps, more precisely from 12 to 30 (in the Krasnodar region - geographical position important) depending on the number of luminous enemy and friendly vehicles in the line of sight. Those. if on your client screen the tank moves smoothly, illuminating the entire enemy horde, then on the server events happen much slower, slowing down, in FPS this can be measured at 15 - 18 fps. The worst brake occurs when you play on art - the top view can show a large number of allies and enemies at the same time, and therefore it turns out that the server needs to quickly process a large amount of data and quickly send it to the client. The time it takes for data to “travel” from the Moscow WoT server to the Krasnodar client also takes time (this time is called ping), the ping is not stable and varies (for example) from 20 to 70 ms.

So, after reading the paragraph above, we can conclude that the actual events on the world of tanks server are slightly different from those that we see on the screen, even the dynamics of targeting and hitting the target are slightly different.

By enabling the "Server Aim" function, you will see the "real" game on the screen, but this may reduce FPS. The lower the ping, the higher the fps. The closer your city, town, village is to the physical location of the wot server, the lower the ping, the easier it is to play. So, from the 4 RU(1-4) Wot servers, choose the one with the lowest ping.

In short, the bottom line is this: if you haven’t seen or heard before about the server crosshair and you need to improve your wot statistics, turn on the “Server crosshair” function and see if you can play with low FPS.

After turning on the server sight, for someone (who had a very low ping) nothing visually will change (such people can be called lucky), but for residents Far East There will be a terrible delay because the normal Far Eastern ping is 100 - 150 ms.

Personally, it became much more interesting for me to play. It has become easier to hit the target across the entire clearing and close (in a certain easily penetrated place). Those. with a server sight, the shot is sent exactly where it was fired, the spread remains only within the gun sight.

Select the server with the lowest ping:

  • RU1- Russia, Moscow - 178.20.235.151, url - login.p1.worldoftanks.net
  • RU2- Russia, Moscow - 178.20.235.83, url - login.p2.worldoftanks.net
  • RU3- Germany, Munich - 213.252.177.91, url - login.p3.worldoftanks.net
  • RU4- Russia, Novosibirsk - 193.110.91.28, url - login.p4.worldoftanks.net
  • RU5- Russia, Moscow - 94.198.55.167, url - login.p5.worldoftanks.net
  • RU6- Russia, Moscow - login.p6.worldoftanks.net
  • RU7- Netherlands, Amsterdam login.p7.worldoftanks.net

So we ping these IP addresses or urls, choosing those with the lowest ping.

More details for those who don’t know how to “ping”:

Next, click " Start " -> execute (and in Windows 7 this is an empty line) -> enter three English letters CMD -> a black window has opened where you write Ping login.p1.worldoftanks.net and you see:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]

C:\Users\LAY>ping login.p1.worldoftanks.net

Exchange of packets from 178.20.235.151 to 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 178.20.235.151: number of bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=55

Reply from 178.20.235.151: number of bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=55
Reply from 178.20.235.151: number of bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=55

Ping statistics for 178.20.235.151:
Packets: sent = 4, received = 4, lost = 0
(0% loss)
Approximate round trip time in ms:
Minimum = 20ms, Maximum = 24ms, Average = 21ms

Meaning time=24ms and is the server response time. Ping the IP addresses of wot servers in order to find with least time response.

Before we begin to answer the question of what is a server sight World of Tanks, you need to determine an approximate scheme for how the game works. The main part of the calculations is performed on the server, which is why there is a desynchronization between the states of the regular sight and the server one.

The normal scope is the one you use by default. It is with this that sometimes problems arise when, when firing while turning, the projectile flies completely in the wrong direction.

The server sight is the one that 100% shows the true circle of spread. The server sight is enabled in the client settings in the "game" section. You just need to check the box.

Personal impressions of use

I would be lying if I said that I didn’t have any glitches related to desynchronization. This has happened more than once and it is very, very unpleasant when you seem to have aimed, but the projectile flies in the wrong direction. In this case, turning on the server crosshair seems like a really convenient thing, but immediately after activation, my FPS decreased by 20 frames. From 40 to 20, horror! And the devil knows why this is so. It’s probably not for nothing that the developers made a regular and server sight.

By the way, this will be especially useful for artillery, which constantly complains that shells are flying in the wrong direction where the aiming circle is located. Try it, turn it on, but be prepared for the fact that the number of frames per second may decrease significantly.

And yes, how can we not mention the modifications affecting the server sight. For example, it will replace the regular version with a server one.

Successful battles!

UPDATE!

This material is no longer relevant! The server sight can be enabled in the game settings!

The usual crosshair that we all see in the game is rendered on the client side, that is, the player. If you look under the hood of the game, then in fact the sight is just a graphical display of aiming coordinates. For the program, a sight is nothing more than just data that the game client sends to the server, which in turn processes this data.

So, due to the existence of such a thing as ping (ping is the time required to transfer information from the client to the server and back wiki), we often observe lags (lag is a delay in the operation of a computer application when it does not respond to wiki input on time). Due to this, information on the server regarding the location of your sight is delayed. This immediately becomes noticeable when you turn on the server sight (seen in the screenshot below).

How to enable server crosshair?

You can enable the server sight using the following combination:

CAPSLOCK + 0- capslock - the same button that converts letters to UPPER CASE, plus the number 0 key (press simultaneously). You can turn it off by pressing this combination again.

Seeing how the server thinks where your muzzle is pointed is very important, since that is where your projectile will fly, however, turning on the server sight loads the game interface and it turns out that this is already the third sight: 1 - mouse, 2 - muzzle (turret rotation), 3 - server sight. It's easy to get confused when the server crosshair is enabled, so it's up to you to decide whether to turn it on or not. But it's worth a try.

Updated 08/16/2017:
  • mod script updated;

The server sight is designed to ensure that your shot will hit the target and that the projectile will not be lost on the Internet, when synchronized between the client and the game server.

World of Tanks has a client-server architecture. This means that some of the game’s functions are implemented on your gaming machine, while others are implemented on the game server. This makes the full range of multiplayer options available to players, but it has its downsides. One of them is the so-called “out of sync,” when a player sees one thing in the game client, but something else is already happening on the server. For example, you aimed your sight at a tank’s weak spot, but the game server doesn’t know about it yet. A shot in such a situation will most likely fail to penetrate or ricochet, which could cost you victory.

With the server crosshair mod, you can also replace the central aiming marker - the crosshair - with one of the options contained within the mod.

Installation

  • Download the archive with a set of server sights and unpack it.
  • Select the type of scope you want to use - old or new.
  • Copy the contents of the folder to the mod directory res_mods\game-version

If you want to change the default server crosshair

  • Using the hint in the picture, select the type of server crosshair (WoT serverside crosshairs)
  • From the corresponding folder in the archive, copy the contents to the res_mods/game-version/gui/maps/ingame/aim folder

WoT has long been popular with experienced players and tankers, whose Internet cannot boast of high stability. This mod adds a hotkey to activate the server sight, which will allow you to quickly switch between normal and augmented fire modes.

In one of latest updates The developers have relieved tankers of the need to download mods that add a server sight, because now it can be enabled directly in the client settings. But even here there are some shortcomings; the developers did not take into account that in battle you sometimes need to switch between sights several times, and going into the settings for this is not very convenient. After installing the mod, this problem will disappear, the server sight can be turned on and off with the F2 key.

And for those who haven’t heard of this kind of mod, let’s explain the essence. Have you ever had a case when the sight is looking at an enemy tank, but when firing, the projectile goes somewhere away from the enemy? This means that there is a desynchronization between the game and server sights, that is, the game one shows aiming at one point, and the server one looks at a completely different point. Because of this, annoying mistakes happen, because of which you can lose more than one battle. That's why people download server sights to always be sure that the projectile will fly exactly to the point where the marker is looking.

Installation

  • You need to go to the mod folder: World_of_Tanksres_mods[patch version] and extract the contents of the archive here. The mod is turned on with the F2 key. Appearance The new sight does not differ from the standard one, but if the sight begins to follow the camera a little slower, then the mod is working.
